What are all the stages/statuses of a project in the Screenplay section?

There are only a few main stages for a fiction film to go from a idea on paper to something that is watchable for the mass.

Fund Raising

Before this stage is the Writer’s stage which is very boring and very crazy and very personal and shall never be shared because it will terrify everybody (for me at least).

Funding stage however, is when the screenplay is ready for production. As the name implied, to start production, there need to be sufficient funding to actually produce the film.

In this stage people will be summoned by the Director for a particular role and will inform an estimate price/cost for their department to the Producer. These costs will be published for each project on their own page.

Pre-production

The project only moves to this stage when there are sufficient funding.

This is when we plan the entire film. All the actors that are still unknown will be chosen; the screenplay will transform into a storyboard; actors & actresses will rehearse for their roles; all technical and creative details of how we will shoot the film be revealed; scenes will be built by the Art Departments; and finally the Assistant Director will then make a schedule for production stage.

Production

The project only moves here once the Director is happy with the pre-production.

This stage is where “the rubber meets the road”. Footages are gathered in this stage by the perfomance of all the cast and crew. We stick to schedule but will adjust according to whatever circumstances that arises. If God does exists, this is when His help is needed the most.

Post-production

Once the film has finished filmming. All footage will be cut by one or multiple Offline Editors with the helps of one or multiple Assistant Editors and of course under the direction of the Director.

The goal of Offline Editing is to finalize an Edit Decision List (EDL). After offline, the film will move to Online Editing. “Line” here means production line. Because there are both pictures and sound to create the magic of cinema, there are 2 lines of production.

The Online Editing consist of all the 3D animation, visual effects, motions graphics, visual comp, color grading e.t.c. It takes a massive team to do all this stuff properly.

The Audio Processing consist of folley or/and sound design, audio dubbing, mixing and mastering .e.t.c. Again, it takes a massive team to do all this stuff properly.

There will be minor adjustment along the way decided by the Director and the Producer who is in charge of all spending.

Re-shoot

This stage only exists when there are creative problems or/and new direction has been discovered that need additional footage.

Premiere

Once both lines of production has completed their work, and all legal details has gone through thoroughly, is when the film is ready to be shared to the audience.

Why crypto currency?

Firstly, currency can be anything. You can donate potatos if you like. But I will just have to go through the trouble of exchanging potatos to a currency that I can legally pay my crew.

Now, for crypto currency, I only accept ₿itcoin and Monero. There are 5 main reasons:

  1. I DO NOT trust anybody when it comes to finance (including fiat). At this very moment, these are the only two crypto currencies (similar to gold) that do not have a single organisation behind them pulling strings.
  2. An investor/sponsor can be anywhere in the world and still be able to participate if he/she/they have an internet access.
  3. An investor/sponsor can remain annonimous. Only the name that is send with crypto currency transaction will be shown in the published film.
  4. Transparent - anybody can watch how much money is being sent to each address of the project at any time.
  5. I am uncertain of the time it would take to raise sufficient fund for a project. The value of crypto currency has increased by quite a bit in the past couple of years; and with the amount of fiat currency being printed during the Covid time, I think crypto currency is quite a reasonable currency to store wealth (unless people want to donate physical gold). There is also no storage cost with crypto currency compares to precious metals or keeping a bank account open.

Why not crypto currency for theatrical released project?

At this current moment, crypto currency transactions are not protected by the laws in Việt Nam. Perhaps in the future this will be changed if more people use the currency and it reaches a more stable state.

However, donation for short & music films can be sponsored by crypto currency since these are considered as gifts or presents - not official transanctions by law.

Is there a floor limit to contribute to a project?

No.

Nevertheless, I do not encourage people with low income to sponsor for these project either.

Art can be a legit portal to share wealth from the have more to the have less. Perhaps not very obvious, but balancing the wealth in society is part of the value of making art.

That does not mean art is the exclusive game for the rich.

Everybody can participate in the project in the most important role - Audience.

Is there a ceiling limit to contribute to a project?

No.

Because if art can be a legit portal to share wealth from the have more to the have less, there is no reason to limit this door.

That does not mean I keep raising fund for a particular project forever. Because myself and the rest of the film crew are filmmakers - not a charity.

E-mail addresses and phone numbers are for me to inform you when needed. A part from the name that would appear in the final film, all these informations will be wiped after the project reaches the premiere stage. (Unless you stick around and we become friends.)

To verify who you are on the internet just by an email or|and XMPP address, please check out PGP or OpenPGP. This technology has been around since the 1990s and still being used everywhere to this day.

If you don’t have a PGP key pair or provide me a legit phone number, I have no way to refund you when such situation does arises because I can’t verify your identity. This is your choice.

If a project is cancelled, what happen to the fund?

As much as I want to keep all the money for myself, I do recognise that we are living on a round plannet and karma is a something that does exists.

All contributions will be refunded after whatever cost up until the moment of cancelation is subtracted.

I represent an organisation and would like to contribute funding. What do I do?

Organisations can transfer through banks same as individuals. However, please put the name, phone number and email of your organisation in the description of the bank transaction. You can contact me for further request after transaction has complete by the infomation you put in the bank transaction.

Please acknowledge that I won’t bother with whatever your requests are before your transaction is completed.
